I drive a lot at work, and I constantly see roundabouts wi th stop signs. THAT’S NOT HOW THIS WORKS, AMERICA. STOP IT.

eh? we have tons of roundabouts in metro Detroit, and no stop signs.

Where?

Detroit has rules? I'm shocked!

I know of two with internal yield signs allowing north/south traffic to take priority . Actually makes sense in those spots ; effectively the roundabouts are town squares rather than traffic circles.

This drives me crazy too. Luckily 99% of the local roundabouts don't have stopsigns. That 1% though......

No it’s not how it works. Stoplights maybe, if the volume of traffic is too much for the roundabout and redoing the road is not a high-priority, but stop-signs never.
I don’t recall seeing one with a stop sign though. I have seen plenty (including one I drove through today) where people stop even though nothing is coming and they have no stop sign/light.

they did this near me because people would fly down the one hill and ignore the yeild sign.

Never seen a roundabout with a stop sign here in NE.

Roundabouts here in New Mexico don’t have stop signs.

Stop signs to enter the roundabout or inside it? Cus we have them before entering, but we all do a california-stop here.

we need a little extra help in the states...

Maybe she means residential. Many neighborhood roundabouts in say Ballard or Fremont are a 2-way stop intersection.

Yeah this one at the south end of Houston’s Museum district works like that:
Traffic in the circle yields to traffic entering from M ain (in both directions) . In theory this is bad thing to do, since it can cause the circle to block, but Hermann and Hermann Park are low enough traffic that it’s not a big issue.

That seems like a bad way to do things. But most residential stop signs are bad and could be replaced with yields. It’s a lazy, inefficient (though cheap) way to decrease average traffic speed.

I mean we almost adopted the metric system. It takes time for us to evolve.

It was metric system or the wall, and you guys chose the Wall

A little of both. I’ll try to get pictures next time.

The Atlanta suburbs, but I’m sure there are more elsewhere.

We are getting a few of them here over the last several years. No stop signs, and, to my surprise, people are figuring them out and they are working pretty well.
This is a good thing, because the alternative sometimes used is a 4 way stop sign. God I hate those. About 1/3 of drivers think it is always their turn as soon as they stop, 2/3 think it is never their turn and wait forever. Of those left I think half the people think car to the right has right of way, guess what? If you have 4 cars at a 4 way stop everybody is car to the right.

I’ve always thought we needed an additional rule to that car-on-right rule. My proposal is that the lightest-colored car goes first in that situation. Like chess.

Reading this, h ow would someone near you even survive the roundabouts in England and Wales?
